4.26.4 Emergency Equipment for Flight over Water.

1. Gliding Distance
  • For  flights over water
  • beyond gliding distance
  • a life preserver is required
  • for each person
2. Beyond 50 NM
  • Enough life-rafts for everyone, 
  • survival locator light,
  • survival kit,
  • at least 1 pyrotechnic signalling device,
  • 1 ELT or PLB.
3. Beyond 200 NM
  • An additional ELT or PLB must be carried.
  • All aircraft over 5700 kg MCTOW
  • must be equipped
  • with both the 50NM and 200NM equipment
  • regardless of performance capabilities
  • with one engine inoperative.

4.10.6 Requirements for Logbook

1. Pilot / Aircraft Details
  • Pilot's name,
  • aircraft details
  • and certifications, authorisations
  • and ratings held
2. Flights
  • Record every flight during which
  • the pilot acted as a flight crew member 
3. Simulator
  • Record - every simulated flight
  • performed for the purpose of crediting time or
  • completing currency requirements for a licence or rating
4. Tests and Reviews
  • Record each flight test, flight review,
  • competency demonstration and
  • flight crew competency check.
5. Mode of entry
  • If a computer-generated report
  • is inserted into a logbook
  • the pilot must make a
  • written logbook entry
  • summarising the report.

4.20.2 Documents which must be carried in an Aircraft in NZ

1. Airworthiness Certificate
  • Current Airworthiness Certificate
  • or certified copy
  • Aircraft may operate without certificate
  • when demonstrating eligibility for issue or renewal
  • - essential persons only on board
2. Flight Manual
  • Aircraft Flight Manual
  • or an approved equivalent document
4. Radio
  • CAA form 2129
  • Radio Station Equipment Approval Levels
3. Tech Log
  • Technical Log for the aircraft
  • Exception - air operator from fixed base
  • if an approved means is in place
  • to inform the pilot of
  • maintenance status of the aircraft 
5. Weights and Balance
  • CAA Form 2173
  • Weight and Balance Data
  • or approved equivalent 

4.12.8 Eligibility for Private Pilot’s Licence

1. Age
  • At least 17 years
3. Flying Hours
  • 50 hrs flight time OR 
  • 40 hours of flight time (if you are not
  • pursuing cross country flying privileges).
2. Medical
  • Class 2 Medical or higher
5. Exams
  • Written exam credits required
  • in all 6 subjects of ground theory.
4. Night Flying
  • For night flying privileges, you need
  • 5 hrs night flying - 2 hrs solo and 2 hours dual

4.10.6 Logbook Entries

1. Time frames - NZ
  • Make entry into your logbook 
  • within 7 days after completion of the flight.
2. Time frames - International
  • For International air transport operations
  • entries must be made
  • within 14 days of the flight.
3. Away from Base
  • Away from base where the
  • logbook is normally kept,
  • entries must be made within
  • 48 hours after return to base.
